Meet the Team: Amanda Lovett, Assistant Director of Sales at The Star

IMG_7759With a passion for tourism and events, Amanda took up the role of Business Development Manager – Events with The Star in 2012 as the venue was re-introduced to the industry as Sydney’s first and only integrated resort. Promoted to Assistant Director of Sales in 2014, in her time at The Star, Amanda has proven her skills in events and customer relations, playing an integral role in raising the profile of The Star within the local and international industry.

One of Amanda’s key achievements at The Star has been her involvement in launching The Star Event Centre in early 2013. Since its launch Amanda has secured numerous high profile events including, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Awards (a.k.a. Australia’s answers to the Oscars) and the most anticipated night on the music industry calendar, the ARIAs which were held in November for the third year in a row at The Star.

Her experience combined with her memberships within a number of industry associations such as Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) and Business Events Sydney alongside her management of The Star’s presence at international events such as AIME, has helped to build The Star’s reputation as Sydney’s premier events and entertainment destination.

Business leaders from around the globe will descend on the Event Centre, 25 – 26 May 2016, for the World Business Forum; speakers include Sir Richard Branson, Chris Gardner and Tamara Erickson.

Sokyo’s Chase Kojima Wins Chef Of The Year At Prestigious AHA Awards

Chef of the Year - Chase KojimaFor the second year in a row, The Star’s food and beverage offering has been awarded one of the highest national accolades in the industry, with Sokyo Executive Chef Chase Kojima named as the joint winner of the 2015 Australian Hotel Association (AHA) Chef of the Year award.

The AHA National Awards for Excellence took place last night at Jupiter’s Hotel and Casino on the Gold Coast, The Star’s fellow Echo Entertainment venue, recognising leading hotels and individuals from across the country for their valuable contribution to the hotel industry.

The prestigious Chef of the Year award was shared between Kojima and Lee Kwiez from Darley’s Restaurant at Lilianfels Resort & Spa. The back-to-back win sees Kojima follow in the footsteps of Jason Alcock, Executive Sous Chef at The Star, who took out the honour at the 2014 awards. One of Australia’s leading and most influential Japanese chefs, Kojima brings exciting and unexpected flavour to Australia’s culinary scene at Sokyo, where he and his team of 50 expert culinary staff have enjoyed rave reviews.

In the past year Kojima has enjoyed success along the east coast with the celebrated opening of his second restaurant, Kiyomi at Jupiter’s on the Gold Coast, serving a modern yet distinctly Japanese menu, along with the seven day breakfast offering in Sydney, Breakfast by Sokyo.

The Star Sydney announces vision for its hotels

Mr John Autelitano, General Manager of Hotels at The Star Sydney recently outlines the strategic vision for hotels – to boost international competitiveness.

The Star Sydney is upgrading the Astral Tower and Residences Hotel in a $130 million refurbishment to meet the growing market demand for quality 5-star accommodation in Sydney. The refurbishment of rooms and suites at the Astral Tower and Residences will complement The Star’s existing domestic and international luxury offering and is set for completion in mid-2016.

The refurbishment demonstrates Echo Entertainment’s focus and investment in raising the level of The Star’s guest service experiences and world-class accommodation.

The Star recognised for outstanding hospitality achievements

The Star is thrilled to be a winner in four categories at this year’s prestigious 2015 Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) NSW Awards for Excellence, held Wednesday evening, 29 July.

For the second year running The Star has won Chef of the Year, with Chase Kojima, Executive Chef at Sokyo taking out this honour and Housekeeping Manager, Mila Szumska winning Housekeeper of the Year. Director of Banquets, Scott Bayne won Food and Beverage Employee of the Year and BLACK Bar at The Star’s signature dining restaurant, BLACK by ezard took out the title of Bar of the Year.

Greg Hawkins, Managing Director of The Star said their commitment to ensuring the highest standards of hospitality across the property’s accommodation, dining and entertainment offering is demonstrated in these award wins.

“The Star is proud to deliver the highest standards in tourism; it is an honour for our team members and facilities to be recognised by Tourism Accommodation Australia in this way.

“We encourage leadership across all areas of the property and are delighted that three of our best talents have been recognised for their leadership qualities, dedication to their profession and inspiring personalities. They are a credit to the whole property,” said Mr Hawkins.

The Star was also recognised as a finalist in 11 other categories at the TAA NSW Awards, including;
